things i learned...

while watching game 3 of the pistons-cavaliers series:

  1. there are only two nba players who've played alongside both michael jordan and lebron james: larry hughes and scott williams (ret.).
  2. maingay ako manood ng basketball.
  3. ted neely has been playing the role of Jesus in Jesus Christ Superstar for 36 years.
  4. one of my mom's former agents is a fan of bukas palad.
  5. i am capable of being friends with an ex, even one who's screwed me over in the most unbelievable way, as long as he's a good person deep down.
  6. the cavs have improved immensely since last year's play-off run.
  7. if i had my way in renovating our unit, i'd extend the kitchen, but that would mean getting rid of the maids' quarters. i could also extend my bedroom, but that would also mean getting rid of the maids' quarters. good thing i'm not in charge.
  8. i really want that other job opportunity, even it means being away for a long time.
cavaliers win game 3. they should enjoy this win because it's gonna be their last game of the season.

rally

the rallyists are making so much noise outside. they're marching along C5, chanting their candidate's name. and the campaign vehicle just passed with dodot's jingle blaring from its speakers (sung to the tune of bamboo's "halleluiah"):

"dodo-o-ot... dodot jaworski para mayor."

grey's anatomy season finale

i just finished watching the last episode of the season and all i can say is oh. my. god. seriously, a lot of things happened. shocking things. HUGE things. i didn't even realize i was holding my breath until the last scene faded out.

looks like things are gearing up for a very interesting season four.

upfronts: abc announces its fall lineup

11 new shows from the alphabet channel, most of which seem promising.

the most high-profile new show would be kate walsh's (a.k.a. addison montgomery) "private practice". this grey's anatomy spin-off, which had it's "pilot" during a 2-hour grey's episode a couple of weeks ago, sees out favorite neonatal surgeon starting a new life in southern california. the star-studded cast includes: taye diggs ("how stella got her groove back", "rent"), amy brenneman ("judging amy"), tim daly ("against the ropes", "wings"... hahaha. basta, kilala sya) and paul adelstein ("prison break").

ano buzz?

what. the. hell?!

it's bad enough that the pistons couldn't close out the bulls at the palace. what sucks even more is that i wasn't even able to watch the game because none of the stupid sports channels were airing it! even basketball tv was showing some dwayne wade tribute video. it's playoff season and they're featuring a player whose team isn't even in the running anymore!

oh for goodness' sake...

questions and answers

"from the moment we wake up in the morning 'til our head hits the pillow at night, our lives are filled with questions. many are easily answered and soon forgotten. but some questions are much harder to ask because we're so afraid of the answer.

and what happens when we ask ourself the hard question and get the answer we'd been hoping for? well, that's when happiness begins." - mary alice young, desperate housewives

monday night

  1. my cousin is pregnant (congrats thrina!). joey and the kids are pretty excited since they've been wanting to add a little girl to their brood. thrina, on the other hand, i'm not quite sure because the last time i checked, she wasn't too keen on having another baby... unless they were guaranteed a girl. she could've changed her mind though.
  2. i woke up in the middle of the night last night. 3:30am to be exact. since i couldn't go back to sleep, i decided to watch the 4th game of the pistons-bulls match-up. like game 3, the pistons rallied to cut a 20-point deficit to just 3 with a few minutes remaining in the game. however, unlike game 3, the bulls didn't collapse. it made for quite an exciting game. it sucks though, that the pistons weren't able to close out the series. but i'm pretty sure they'll finish off the bulls in game 5.
  3. according to inquirer.net's election site, as of 5:50pm today, the top 12 senatoriables are: noynoy aquino, chiz escudero, loren legarda, joker arroyo, manny villar, kiko pangilinan, ed angara, ping lacson, allan peter cayetano, antonio trillanes, gringo honasan, ralph recto. part of me is glad that the likes of richard gomez, cesar montano, tito sotto and victor wood aren't part of that list. but it breaks my heart that trillanes, honasan and lacson are there. oh well.
  4. dirk nowitzki is this year's nba mvp. personally, i would've preferred steve nash, but i'm not voting so there's pretty much nothing i can do.
  5. brothers and sisters is a really good show. good thing abc picked it up for a second season. speaking of which, today is upfronts season in nyc. upfronts is the yearly event networks announce which shows will fill their roster this fall. i'm pretty confident that my favorite shows are going to be around. except for studio 60 on the sunset strip... that makes me sad.

bland, boring bee gees night

it's such a mystery. the top 4, this idol season's creme de la creme, didn't wow. at all. after an amazing bon jovi night, this week's feature on the bee gees' songbook was a complete letdown.

you know how there are songs that seem so easy to sing but they actually aren't? and when you attempt to sing them, even only in the shower, you realize just how difficult they are and you suddenly have a new-found respect for the artist that made them hits (that's how i feel about gloria estefan)? last night's show left me wondering if it was the same deal for the likes of "staying alive", "woman in love", "you should be dancing", etc. *sigh*

each idol got to sing two songs last night. each idol had two chances to step it up, bring their a-game, knock it out of the ballpark. alas, none of them did.

blake, last week's trailblazer, gave weak and tired performances. i'm afraid there's a huge chance that he'll be in the bottom two this week. kinda like chris daughtry last year. the only difference is that chris left on a hight note. that being said, he's still my favorite of the bunch.

the mighty melinda, with her usual flawless, pitch-perfect performance, wasn't able to draw much emotion from her takes on "love you inside and out" and "how can you mend a broken heart".

a lot of people think jordin had the strongest showing last night. me, not so much. her "to love somebody" was ok at best, but interpretation of miss barbra's "woman in love" was just painful to sit through.

and lakisha? yeah, she's out of there.

one last thing: did barry gibb always have that lishp?

blake lewis rocks bon jovi

i. love. blake lewis. i wasn't too sure about him during the audition episodes, but eversince his sentimental turn during the semi-final round -- for those who forgot, he sang keane's "somewhere only we know" -- i was a convert. it doesn't matter if he has blond or jet black hair. i love him anyway. almost as much as i love last season's chris daughtry (see below).

anyway, after a slew of ballads, blake broke out his beatboxing skills once again and totally knocked bon jovi's "you give love a bad name" out of the park for american idol's rock week. he really took a risk by infusing his musical stylings into one of the most popular rock songs of all time and it paid off. big time.

vocal powerhouses lakisha jones and melinda doolittle were totally in the zone. lakisha -- who got a kiss from simon after her performance -- rebounded from the last two weeks with a soulful rendition of "this ain't a love song", while mighty melinda channelled tina turner to rock out "have a nice day". seriously, is there any song out there that this woman cannot sing?

rounding out my top four -- the bottom two contestants are going to be eliminated this week -- is jordin sparks. not because she sang "living on a prayer" particularly well, but because i think she's done enough to ensure a spot in the top three... or the finals even.

that being said, i can't wait to see phil stacey and chris richardson go home. although phil gave what was probably his best performance so far with "blaze of glory", i don't think he has enough of a personality to make it through to the next round. and chris? i just find him annoying, especially his nasal, screechy interpretation of "wanted dead or alive". it didn't help that my favorite idol from season 5 chris daughtry gave a much more superior performance last season. daughtry sang it so well that it was his song in the compilation cd. and it was included in the idol tour repertoire.

in chris' video he said that someone had to sing "wanted" for rock week and if he had to take the flack for it then so be it. a self-fulfilling prophecy? we'll find out tomorrow night.
